In July 2025, while driving through the wide-open expanse of Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley, this bison stepped calmly across the road in front of me. I pulled over and captured this close view of its eye — a window into the resilience and strength of one of America’s most iconic animals. The moment was quiet, powerful, and a reminder of the wild beauty that these lands protect for all of us.
